Max Denney is a composer, guitarist, electronic musician, and improvisor. Their practice often deals with ideas of “the natural” and the human perspective and place within natural systems, as well as in the use of ritual and repetitive actions as a way of engaging with memory and the past. They are a member of composer’s collective This Machine, a member of experimental guitar group Trio Ampliphonic, and they release ambient and noise music as Lithops. As a performer they have worked with LA’s Monday Evening Concerts, the Dogstar Orchestra, the LA Reader’s Chorus, and many other ensembles and organizations. Max holds a BM in Jazz Studies from Shenandoah University and an MFA in Composition and Performance from California Institute of the Arts.
