Maddison Bulman
Maddison Bulman is a fourth-year BFA in Dance Student at the University of Iowa, pursuing tracks in Pre-Physical Therapy and Dance Pedagogy. Originally from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Maddison began her training at Dance Nation and later at the Dance Academy of Cedar Rapids, where she competed, attended numerous conventions and intensives, and trained extensively in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, and modern dance. She was also a dedicated member of the Jefferson Varsity Dance Team for four years, serving as captain her senior year.
At Iowa, Maddison performed in a wide range of works and festivals, including the University of Iowa Dance Company under the direction of Melinda Jean Myers and Todd Rhoades, Graduate and Undergraduate Concerts, COCO Dance Festival, Independent Projects, Todd Rhoades’s Thesis, BFA Capstone Concerts, and Dance Gala. She also performed in Panorama as part of the Graham 100 Concert at Hancher Auditorium.
Most recently, Maddison participated in the American College Dance Association's Central Conference in Norman, Oklahoma, performing "Mystic Sister", choreographed by Mikey Rioux, which was selected as the second alternate for the National Festival. In February, she traveled to RAD Fest in Kalamazoo, Michigan to perform "since we have come this far how do we get back", choreographed by Stephanie Miracle.
Throughout her academic career, Maddison has had the opportunity to collaborate with a variety of esteemed artists and faculty including Aaron Samuel Davis, Stephanie Miracle, Kieron Sargeant, Jennifer Kayle, Melinda Jean Myers, Todd Rhoades, Brady Van Patten, Mikey Rioux, Tony Orrico, Emily Culbreath, Sean Boyt, and Emmalee Hallinan. In addition to her performance work, Maddison has been actively involved in Dance Medicine Research under Dr. Jason Willer and has served as the Peer Mentorship Officer for the Undergraduate Dance Organization for three years.
Outside of academia, Maddison is a backup dancer for pop artist Alisabeth Von Presley and tours with her during the summer. She has performed for two consecutive years in Presley’s holiday show, Christmas in the Key of A.
Following graduation, Maddison will attend the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences to pursue a Doctorate of Physical Therapy. Her ultimate goal has always been to merge her passions for dance and physical therapy—using her knowledge of movement science and artistry to help dancers and athletes heal, strengthen, and thrive.
