Biography

Jennifer Kayle is a Professor, Director of the MFA Dance program at University of Iowa, and Director of Turns at the Intersection, a multi-racial, -gendered, -aged improvisation ensemble called “Impressive…but not in a boastful way…a glimpse into the community built between performers…no boundaries or exclusivity.” (KRUI fm) With philosopher Ali Hasan, Kayle co-authored Unplanned Coordination; Ensemble Improvisation as Collective Action, published in the Journal of Social Ontology. Kayle’s work has been reviewed as “provocative, tight, with wit and stage craft… serious chops” (Vox Fringe), “memorable…shockingly poignant,” (City Revealed). With over 60 works shown nationally and internationally, Kayle was the first contemporary choreographer curated by the national museum, El Museo Centro Leon in Santiago, Dominican Republic. She has been curated by The American Dance Guild Festival at the Ailey Center, NYC, Highways Performance Space (Los Angeles, CA), the Body/Word International Festival (St. Petersburg, Russia), Harvest Chicago Contemporary Dance Festival, Links Hall (Chicago, IL),  Symphony Space-International New Music Festival (New York, NY), Jacob’s Pillow’s Inside Out (Becket, MA), Joyce Soho (New York, NY), and Imagining America: Artists and Scholars in Public Life, A Call to Action (Syracuse, NY).  Learn more at JenniferKayle.com
