Biography

Brady Van Patten is a queer, gay physical theater performer and interdisciplinary creator from Chicago, Illinois. He is in his final semester at the University of Iowa finishing his M.F.A. in the Department of Dance on the Choreography track. Van Patten's work plays at the intersection of theater and dance, embracing mess, humor, and the unapologetic truth of queer joy.

Most recently Van Patten created and co-produced Fairyland: A Disorderly Conduct Cabaret, a cross departmental queer celebration and collaboration with Performing Arts at Iowa, the Department of Theatre Arts, Department of Dance, and School of Music at The Englert Theatre. 

During his time at the University of Iowa he has performed in the American College Dance Festival’s Gala Performance in Stephanie Miracle’s work SqE8ty6R^y7 (Glitch Code), in One Giant Leap directed by Ann Kreitman, and choreographed for the Department of Theatre Arts' production of Dance Nation.

In Chicago, Van Patten has performed, collaborated and created with companies including The Neo-Futurist Theatre Company, Lucky Plush Productions, Harvest Chicago Contemporary Dance Festival at the Ruth Page Center of Performing Arts, Collaboraction’s PeaceBook Project, Heels over Head Festival at The iO Theater, THAWALLS at Links Hall, Kelly Anderson Dance Theatre, Carson Reiners Dances, and Comedy Dance Chicago.
