Amya Lopez
Amya Lopez is a fourth-year BFA student at the University of Iowa majoring in dance and minoring in business administration. Originally from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, she trained at The Dance Factory under Tina Hansen, where she danced on their competition team under the direction of Garrett Volpendesta and studied dance with Laura Kariotis and Ashley James. While at the university, Amya has performed in various performances and festivals, including Dance Gala, Faculty Graduate Concert, multiple Graduate thesis concerts, the University of Iowa Presidental Lecture, the American College Dance Association Conference, and the Trifecta Dance Festival. Amya has trained under many acclaimed faculty members from the department of dance including Eloy Barragán, George De La Peña, Armando Duarte, Kristin Marrs, Stephanie Miracle, Melinda Jean Myers, Tony Orrico, Kieron Dwayne Sargent, Charmian Wells, and Britt Juleen. Amya has attended various intensives and workshops to supplement her training, including the Oklahoma International Dance Festival, CHAPTERS by Talia Favia, The London Spring Tour, and the Cecchetti Council of America Summer Intensive. Recently, Amya was awarded the Claire Bataille Legacy Scholarship from the Chicago Movement Collective under the direction of Ethan Kirschbaum. After graduating, Amya will continue her training at Visceral Dance Chicago as a member of their Trainee program.
